With its quaint village feel and off the beaten track location, Edif Weng Lok appeals to both singles and young couples seeking life beyond the Taipa high-rises.

Gems like this apartment in Edif Weng Lok in Old Taipa Village are hard to come across these days. With a combination of dogged persistence, a love of and belief in old charming properties in Macau, a bit of local knowledge and some good luck, the owner of this second floor walk up was delighted to find this property. Purchased for a little over HKD1.2m, it was in relatively good condition, and required only minor alterations.

Renovations included opening up the kitchen, clearing up the small balcony to accommodate a breakfast table and chairs, and finishing the walls in off white with a feature wall for contrast. Simple modern furniture from IKEA complements the light floors and walls.

The lush green trees that surround the apartment create a tree-house effect – the leaves of the tree canopy brush against the windows in the two bedrooms; bird-song in the mornings is a welcome wake-up call rather than the high pitch beeps of an alarm clock! All windows throughout the apartment were enlarged to allow in more light, especially in the afternoon when it shines in over the treetops.

Although a small space, everything has been thought out carefully in order to maximise the best use of space for each area. The apartment building is in a quiet location on the edge of the village, but still only a short walk from shops, restaurants, a wet market and the nearby Cotai strip.

It’s not easy to find these hidden gems any more but there are still some waiting to be discovered. For more information on similar apartments available for purchase or rent in Macau, please contact Suzanne Watkinson at +853-6622 8541 or on enquiries@ambiente.mo or visit www.vproperty.mo/ambiente
